Now you know this isn't something I discuss often but now feels like the time to do so.
Although people say the best way to combat block is using chat rooms and forums, these are very daunting places to someone who basically has had confidence knocked while writing. Call me cynical but writer's block isn't one size fits all, It can stem from many reasons and many things.
I was writing stuff from a very young age at school and when I got older I was put off by some folk who though "treat them harsh and they will appreciate it" this is where the fault with chat rooms come into play. If there is no wriggle room for people who have certain conditions (although granted I heavily lean on the grammar and spelling checks in word before I do anything.) especially stuff I have written down when I am on the train (yep sorry I am one of those "geeks" who take a small note book with them writing what may seem non sense down) but when you're not surrounded by technology or twitter or your mobile phone for that matter, Your head actually creates your own little world. The only tech sometimes I have with me is my mp3 player with tracks like
[link]on it and yes I am aware it sounds medieval and old but this has got me thinking many of a time and that I am happy about. I mean as sad as this is going to sound I used to play WoW and I even had a story I had physically started about one of my character's I used to play, I stopped due to being discouraged as I mentioned above, I am regretting that now as it could have been something beautiful.
When I've been on any forms, mostly interest based ones, I've tended to lurk for a while to try to get a feel for the sorts of regulars in the chat group.
I find socialising with new people just as difficult on forums as I do in real life, and as for asking for help, I've only really done that on the tech support sort, so I can imagine how daunting it'd be to ask for constructive critism from a forum and hope you're not going to get pummeled with useless put downs. I suppose it's just a case of hunting for the right /comfortable sort, then just watching out for the occasional troll. Some site moderators are quite vigilant in that respect.
Now, it'd just be handy if you could find someone who's had experience with a nice, helpful writing forum
